David M. Britt (1917-2009)
David Britt joined Bailey & Dixon in 1983 as a member of its appellate and legislative practice group.
As one of the six original judges of the then newly created North Carolina Court of Appeals in 1967, Judge Britt
served for eleven years. In 1978, Governor James B. Hunt appointed him a Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court,
where he served until retiring as Justice in 1982.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Mr. Britt was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1958 to 1967,
elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives during the 1967 term.
He was an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, serving as its Vice President from 1974-1975,
receiving his law degree from Wake Forest University.
