Phil Collins and Larry Reeves win North Carolina Court of Appeals Case
June 7, 2016
Phil Collins and Larry Reeves obtained a summary judgment dismissal of claims against their client, a church that had been sued for alleged defamation and negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress by a church member who had served as a treasurer of the church and a member of the Board of Trustees. The contentious litigation arose after the church requested that the plaintiff resign his position as treasurer. In addition to the aforementioned claims, the plaintiff sought to enjoin the church from conducting any financial transactions. The plaintiff appealed the dismissal and Phil and Larry successfully argued to the North Carolina Court of Appeas that the dismissal of all the plaintiff's claims was proper. The Court of Appeals affired the trial court's ruling in Glenn v. Johnson, 787 S.E.2d 65, 2016 N.C. App. Lexis 611 (N.C. Ct. App. 2016).
